James Jermaine John

James with lobsters

bb: Hi James, what is your full name and how old are you?

JJ: It's James Jermaine John and I was born on October 31st 1990 in Barbuda, so I am twenty years old.

bb: What do you do for work, James?

JJ: I am currently doing a joinery training programme with the Barbuda Council, it's an Apprenticeship scheme and we work with materials such as MDF, wood or with recycled wood and even tree stumps. Only today I made a stool for my house.

bb: What do you do in your spare time, do you have any hobbies?

JJ: As usual we hang around and get into trouble... (he chuckles) I enjoy going fishing for lobsters (and I caught the ones above today) and playing computer games. Also I enjoy keeping fit and I play football, and I used to run for my island.

bb: What are your plans for the future?

JJ: I would like to see how far I can get with joinery and see what I can do with it, as I hope to work in that industry. I don't plan to stay in Barbuda for my whole life, maybe three more years and then work somewhere else to earn more money. Then I think I will come back to have my own business and to teach other young people and employ the children of the future!

bb: Thank you James, we wish you well for the future.

Now, it's been too long.
Too long, too long in slavery.
Free the people and let them move in liberty
Now, it's been too long.
Too long, too long in slavery.
So the struggle continue.
But while the struggle continue, I'm going to tell you.
We rastaman will set the world free...
