Education Centre

the Education Center, under construction in the grounds of the Church (Claire Frank)

The Education Centre was born out of the need to help the Barbudan community, particularly the youth, to develop the aptitude for learning and to enhance the quality of life through this avenue. The Education Centre is a new two-storey building, under construction in the grounds of the Pentecostal Church.

Overview of expected usage

Downstairs areas/classrooms will be dedicated to

  • teaching culinary, art and craft, and sewing skills
  • teaching information technology
  • conventional courses, for example English, maths, Spanish
  • sessions on electrical wiring, plumbing, drafting, music, and art

The upstairs level will be used for

  • large lectures and conferences - Barbuda has no conference centre
  • occasional banquets
  • Sunday School
  • Bible School
  • disaster shelter

The first floor has a two-roomed apartment to accommodate visitors while the veranda will be used as a speaking platform for open-air forums. Two offices will be used for administration and secretarial purposes.

Women's Ministry

The Women's Ministry is the most active group in the Barbuda Pentecostal Church. Theirs is a ministry of care for all members of the community, which gives them the opportunity to use their spiritual gifts for the glory of God.

The women meet every Monday at 6.30 pm. Debbie Jeffrey is the President, Nathalie Nedd, the Vice President, and Jacinta Walbrook is the Advisor. The Ministry includes members from other churches; Flo Webber David represents the Holy Trinity Anglican Church and Leonise Desouza the Wesleyan Holiness. The women offer $5.00 at each meeting.

Women's issues are discussed at their regular seminars and discussion groups as well as at an international women's conference over Easter entitled "Daughters of Destiny". The Ministry hopes to make this an annual event.

Throughout the year the members provide comfort, help and food for the sick, shut-ins, and disabled. They teach at Sunday School. Blondel Deazle and Angela Beazer are accomplished makers of craft items. The group are preparing a book of Barbudan recipes. They go camping and recently visited St Martin together.
