Maverick Weatherhead and Derol Thomas will travel to Trinidad to run in the qualifying rounds for the Carifta Games over the Easter weekend. Maverick will run in the under-17 400, 800, and possibly 1500 metres and Derol in the under-20 800 and 1500 metres. They are age group national champions at these distances and will be competing for Antigua and Barbuda. Maverick and Derol will be accompanied by their coach, Peter Cuffy, who is IOC certified.


Public Works have started to lay tarmac on the roads of Barbuda. The two photos above, taken by Aldorn Lee, show the work which was started in the Buffalo area last week. Aldorn Lee is a student in Form V at the Sir McChesney George Secondary School; he will be graduating in July 2006.

On Friday tarmac was laid on the road leading from the ACB Bank to the aeroport, as shown in the photos above. Other roads in Codrington Village will be surfaced in the near future.
The Young Leaders of Sir McChesney George Secondary School will be holding another panel discussion on the Abundant Life Radio station. The Young Leaders and members of the community will be discussing the 2006 theme, "Shaping the Future", in relation to teenage sexuality. Aldorn Lee, who has proved to be a popular participant, will be taking part again.

A basketball spectacular is taking place at the basketball complex at 6.30 pm continuing through the week. Maverick Weatherhead is sponsoring a trophy for the winner. Admission is EC$2 each evening. Beaver tells us ...
A sitting of the Magistrate's Court will held on Monday 6, Tuesday 7, Wednesday 8, and Thursday 9 March. The proceedings start at 9 am daily in the Council Hall.
A team of 25 athletes from the Holy Trinity School and the Sir McChesney George Secondary School competed in the national age group championships held at Yasco Stadium over the weekend. The team won five gold and four silver medals and one bronze. Maverick Weatherhead won three gold medals and Derol Thomas two golds. Maverick was honoured as the top athlete in the under-17 age group. Barbuda's IOC coach, Peter Cuffy, accompanied the athletes. See our latest sports' news page for details.
