American doctors marry at Two Foot Bay

American doctor Nori Onishi and his fiancée April Yafuso were married by Pastor Nigel Henry at Two Foot Bay. Nori and April come from Morgantown, West Virginia and have served as doctors at the Hanna Thomas Hospital several times.
The wedding was attended by their immediate family and friends from overseas and Barbuda. The bride was beautiful in the white dress that she had made. The reception was held at the doctor's house. Food was prepared by Daphne Desouza and Calvin Webber, while the wedding cake was made by Mrs Joseph. Fresh flowers were arranged by Claire Frank and Debbie Jeffrey. Imran Thomas provided the music, Mohamed Walbrook took the photos, and Jason Mapp recorded a video of the happy event. Congratulations to Nori and April from everyone here in Barbuda.
Inter-school Track and Field Championships, Antigua
Thursday 11 and Friday 12 March 2004
Sports coaches, Peter Cuffy and Connie Desouza, took 28 students of the Barbuda Falcons Club to these championships. The boys and girls competed in the under 13, under 15, under 17, and under 20 age groups. Most competed on the track, but HTS had some great long jumpers too.
HTS student, Maverick Weatherhead, is unbeaten in the Leeward Islands. In 2002 he won a gold medal at the Leeward Island Youth Championships in Nevis, but was unable to compete in 2003 due to lack of funding. Unfortunately Peter Cuffy had the same problem in 2004. Sponsorship is needed for air fares and food for 30 participants and coaches. The boys and girls were being provided with transport and accommodation at the Police Training School and the ARG. Bees swarm at the Holy Trinity School

A swarm of bees was expertly removed by Obrien John. Students had returned to school on Monday 8 March to find the bees under the eaves of the main hall. By Wednesday the swarm was about one foot in diameter and had started to produce honeycomb. One person was stung by a bee.
Visit from Consumer Protection

Advisors from the Office of Prices and Consumer Affairs visited Barbuda. They gave presentations to the school students and to the wider community.
Visit from Mrs Maureen Lewis
Tuesday 9 March to Thursday 11 March
Mrs Maureen Lewis, the Co-ordinator of School Counselling with the Health and Family Life Project, visited the Holy Trinity School. Mrs Lewis and Ms Michelle Lynch conducted three seminar discussions on adolescent reproductive health with students. A survey on this topic conducted in October 2003 revealed a need for follow up. This was the second in a series of discussions that Mrs Lewis has held at the school this term.

Horse racing at Coronation Park

This was the first event for a long time. The Turf Club had prepared an excellent track and the horses were well turned out by owners and trainers. A large crowd watched five races for half-bred to thoroughbred horses. We are preparing a page for the Turf Club where we will list the committee, horses, owners, trainers, and jockeys. We will give the winners of this race meeting and news of all future events.
