Holy Trinity Anglican Church

The Holy Trinity Church holds a very special place in the Barbudan community; it was established during the days of slavery as the first church on the island. The Anglican Church introduced education in Barbuda and governed and operated the Holy Trinity School from its inception until 1950, when the Government of Antigua took over fully. Holy Trinity holds you in high esteem. Holy Trinity continues to host various inter-denominational events and opens its doors to all races, creeds, and beliefs.

The Holy Eucharist is celebrated on Sundays at 9.30 am, with Sunday School at 3.00 pm, and our youth group meets on Mondays at 7.00 pm. The church celebrates the special festivals of Lent, Easter, Harvest, Advent, and Christmas. We provide a very tasty brunch during Easter and Harvest times. At Christmas the splendid choir gives carol performances at the various hotels and programmes at the church itself. For further information contact Mrs Alice Webber David on +1-(268)-460-0265.

The Church Restoration Fund

The present building, erected in 1924 after the previous one was destroyed by a hurricane in 1922, is showing some wear and tear; the ceiling in particular. Members of the vestry and congregation have embarked on a fund raising drive by holding various events, including early morning breakfasts on Saturdays and barbecues. We continue to appeal to fellow Barbudans and visitors to our congregation for assistance with the restoration of ceiling timbers and pews from extensive termite damage and the damp that is causing the plaster to collapse.

In the past we have received a great deal of support including:

  • Guests at Coco Point Lodge who have donated light fixtures and fittings.
  • A plaque that was donated and presented posthumously to the Rt. Revd. Father Alfred Edwin Hatch-Syrett, one of the most effective priests and headmaster of the Holy Trinity School from 1944 to 1952. The plaque has taken pride of place in the sanctuary on the east wall of the church. Nurse Lillian Sebastian's tremendous effort brought about this event.
  • All the volunteers and congregation members whose work goes unnoticed in the church but who give their time and energy to the project.
