How we started

The vision of Abundant Life Radio

Clifton and Michal François (Lesley Watkins)

The idea of radio has always been a desire of mine since I was a child. I always wanted to become a journalist or a preacher. My love for broadcasting led me to start a religious programme on several Christian radio stations.

After getting married to my wife, Michal James-François, I shared my desire with her and she was also excited about it. One Saturday I had a microphone that I borrowed from Brother Wesley Beazer to do my broadcast, and my wife and I started to pretend we were reporting at a radio station. We were very excited. Little did we know that this was the start of our mission. God was using what we term as foolishness to speak to us.

We realised that this was to become a reality, so we applied for a radio broadcasting licence. The road to acquiring the licence was not easy. Many times we wanted to quit, but God's mercy kept us. Finally, on June 20 2001, after numerous calls to the Ministry they approved our application and we were given a licence to operate on the FM frequency of 103.1 MHz.

Our first air time

On Saturday 8 September 2001, after a sleepless night in Antigua with our technician Brother Trevor, I travelled to Barbuda. On arrival I quickly called Brothers Jason and Wesley and told them that I had a transmitter. At about 7.15 pm it all happened, the Abundant Life Radio was on the air. New life came to Barbuda with the song "Jesus and Me" from the Regenerated Singers. We called round the village and asked people to tune in. We continued testing for a week with assistance from Brother Neil George who started every morning at 5.30 am.

Our objectives

Our main objectives are to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through the preached word and gospel music. We also air educational and informative programmes. Our theme for the station is...

...Bringing Life Into Your Day

Programme

Tirzah Beazer broadcasting from the radio station (Lesley Watkins)

As at March 2006 we continue to broadcast 24 hours a day with regular programming from 6 am to 11 pm. Our programme log includes preaching, teaching, and interactive programmes from local pastors and a few international programmes. We also now do live programming from the UK, USA, and other Caribbean islands.

We air a community update and weather report daily in collaboration with co-operative sponsors. Our main features are our Morning Inspiration from 10 am until 1 pm and our Afternoon Praise Requests from 4 pm to 6.30 pm.

Achievements

Michal James-François broadcasting from the studio (Lesley Watkins)

Hitherto hath the Lord brought us. Certainly we have achieved a lot since our inception. From January 2006 we commenced operations live on the Internet with our own web site.

We have improved our coverage and quality on both our frequencies.

We have had overwhelming responses and testimonies of breakthroughs in the lives of our listeners.

Goals

The sky is our limit. It is our prayer to expand our coverage to the nations of the world. We are still planning to construct a proper studio and get better transmitting and studio equipment. Our aim is to win a million souls for Jesus Christ.

Thank you

Special thanks must be given to Almighty God. Also thanks to my wife for her continual prayers and support. Thanks to all members of my Ministry team. Special mention must be made of Minister Orville Robinson for building our web site. Special thanks to all my partners and prayer warriors for their continued support.
